Length of Position: 3-12 months

Description: For the duration of the placement you will be expected to teach English, French or German to the family and take part in the family's activities. The minimum stay for the language assistant programme is 3 months, although you may choose to stay for 12 months. If you are a smoker, you must be willing not to smoke in the host family's home, unless of course they give you permission to do so. Your timetable will consist of 15 hours a week, from Monday to Friday, and it is during these 15 hours that you will be tutoring the host family in the language that you speak. You will be teaching mainly in the evenings, either between 5 pm and 8 pm, or between 6 pm and 9 pm. The rest of your day will be free, as will your weekends.

Qualifications / Skills Needed: The applicant must be at least 18 years old (there is no upper age limit) and the language you will be teaching must be your native tongue. Anyone can apply for this placement as long as they are willing to learn and are enthusiastic individuals. Being able to speak Spanish would be a bonus but is by no means a prerequisite, as you will be expected to communicate in French, German or English. In many cases, the host family prefers it if you don't speak any Spanish, as it will improve their skills in the other language.
